Palazzone San Casciano dei Bagni

PLACE

Its origin might be due to the fact that it finds itself on one of the secondary routes of the Cassia Romana on the Orvieto-Chiusi route, thus becoming sort of a commercial extension of the upper castle of Figline. The name Stabbiano (stabulum) united to the names of Villa San Pellegrino and Palazzone, that are situated in a territory belonging to the Marquis Gotofredo, allow us to identify the elements characteristic of a post station. To the possibility of a resting stop, soon it was added that of commercial exchange, as the decrees of the first part of the XVIth century about the market in Palazzone by the community of Figline testify. The lack of a unified settling development in the area, has delayed the acknowlegdment of Palazzone as an independent community, also including the religious aspect. The recognition as parish was granted summing the nuclei of Sasso, Upper Stabbiano, Lower Stabbiano and Cupa, only on October 29th, 1794.
