It’s an ancient water system dug by the Etruscans between 500B.C. and 400 B.C., erroneously recognized as “Porsenna’s Labyrinth” by the archeologists that found the first tunnels in the twenties. As a matter of fact, the scholars thought that they had found one of the four labyrinths described by Plinius. The tunnels extend up to the Etruscan-Roman cistern, so called because dated during the Roman Age, but constructed in an Etruscan style.
